The Pali usages seem to reflect the double accusative example given in
Sanskrit grammatical texts. One verse which summarizes the verbs which
tend to be found with double accusatives runs:

duh - yaac - pac - dand - rudhi - prcchi
ci - bruu - zaasU - ji - math - mRSaam /

karmayuk syaad akathitaM
tathaa sya ni - hR - kRc - vathaam //

It's interesting that these verbs involve cooking, burning, asking,
teaching, and such activities. They occasionally find parallels even in
English usage, as others have noted. (Note that this verse comes via my
weak memory so it might be full of errors. A few of the verbs cited
include "markers" from Paninian terminology.)
