It's definitely weird at first, but once you get used to it you might
start to like it better than the Roman alphabetical order. The latter
is more or less random, while the Indian alphabetical order is based
on phonetical principles which make it easy to remember.
A good way to get used to it is to start by looking up words in
shorter wordlists such as the vocabulary accompanying lessons in
textbooks like Warder's Introduction to Pali, and others. This isn't
as overwhelming as leafing through a 738 page dictionary.
Practicing arranging words in alphabetical order can also be useful
to help get the hang of the system.
