thanks, it is a difficult word. I like to think of 'consume' simply
as "to take in" rather than "to exhaust". Still, I will put up all
the alternatives on the webpage.

'Consume' sounds like it gets used up, like it's all gone afterwards.
Another alternative might be 'imbibe'.
