jaate kho pana bhikkhave Vipassimhi kumaare,
Bandhumato ra��o pa.tivedesu.m:
on the birth / indeed / monks / on Vipassi / prince /
Bandhuma / to the king / they showed
Monks, when Prince Vipassi was born, they showed him
to King Bandhuma:

putto te deva jaato, ta.m devo passatu ti.
son / to you / lord / born / him /lord / may you look

addasaa kho bhikkhave Bandhumaa raajaa
Vipassii-kumaara.m,

Vipassi-prince
So, monks, King Bandhuma looked at Prince Vipassi,

disvaa nemitte braahma.ne aamantaapetvaa etad avoca:
having seen / sign / brahmins / having summoned / thus

and on seeing him, he summoned his Brahmins skilled in
divination, and said to them:

passantu bhonto nemittaa braahma.naa kumaaran ti.
May you see / sirs / sign / brahmins / prince /
