Dear Pali friends,
Regarding the discussion of relationship between modern
neurophysiology and the workings of the mind, may I recommend to you
the article by Dr. Lester Fehmi "Attention to Attention"
http://www.openfocus.com/text/a_to_a.pdf
This article may also lead to insights in the afrea of fundamental
attention (yoniso manasikaara) and the perceptual images (nimitta).
It also discusses the rate of awareness/cognition (RAS).
ABSTRACT
To realize fully our human potential is to learn to be aware of, to
choose flexibly, and to implement effortlessly an expanding, dynamic
range of attentional styles for the optimum allocation of our
resources.
A fundamental observation is presented in this paper: Attentional
styles and brain wave activity are reflected in each other. Attention
styles are defined. Attention biases are described and their impact on
physiology and experience is suggested. Optimum attention style
combinations are suggested. Research data are presented. Talk therapy
and attention training are contrasted. How we use styles of attention
to manage our experience is discussed. An umbrella identity is
recommended as a portal to flexible attention. A neural mechanism for
separation and integration of awareness, attention and their contents
is proposed. The potential benefits for exploring and practicing
attention styles and OPEN FOCUS are described.
