Today, people people are trying to dominate each other. People often strive hard for money, power and position so that they will have control over others. It will be to one's benefit if we could only realize that it is more important to first conquer oneself.

The Buddha said that self conquest is better than world conquest.

Though one should conquer a thousand times a thousand men in battle, he who conquers his own self is the greatest of all conquerors.

If we can conquer ourselves, others will trust and respect us for our victory. The Buddha conquered himself first and then he conquered the whole world with his love, compassion and wisdom. Thus, he is widely respected by Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.
