I think your analogy with quantum theory is stimulating -- I have sometimes
considered the mater along similar lines, but like you, I am no physicist :(

The sutta in question is the Samudayo-sutta in the SN Mahaavagga (p1660 of
Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation). Note also my mistyping: it should be
"naamaruupa-samudayaa". And, yes, I suppose it is yet another variant of
the PS formular.
