If I have understood the Hare Krishna followers and
the Latter Day Saints correctly, they are not
encouraged by their religious communities to read
their scriptures in a calm and analytical way, trying
to test everything by their own life experience and
accepting nothing through belief only.

On the other hand, if I understand e. g. the Kalama
Sutta and the Upali Sutta correctly, that is how the
Buddha is said to have recommended us to relate to his
teaching.
