Hi Gunna and Tan,

Some light, some shadow. I remember that even the Siam Nikaya (which is by far not very famous for its vinaya practise in Sri Lanka) has one "chapter" of monks called Siam Nikaya "Vanavasi" (forest dwellers). This is kind of reform group (similar to the "Kalyani Samsthava" of Ramanna Nikaya) which was inspired by a certain thera (cant remember his name). They maintain several quite remote meditation forest hermitages - Kalugala being probably the most famous among them (situated in the Sinharaja forest - lovely monastery). For instance that Kalugala Siam Nikaya Vanavasi- abbot monk was (i dont know whether he is still alive) island-wide known for his capabilities in Kasina-meditation...

I remember being myself surprised to find such a strong dhamma-based practise inside the Siam Nikaya, against which i had a strong bias. It somehow pointed out to me, that it probably all depends on each and every ones dhamma practise. You all may know the words "as long as bhikkhus follow my teaching, the world wont be empty of arahants"

mettaya,

Lennart

I feel the same at times, when I am in a pessimistic
mood; but after all, corruption is not a synonym of
death, and we still have a lot of Pali texts - and
there *are* even today some Buddhists, both ordained
and lay, whom I would not call corrupted.

So I don't think it is too late to try to do something
quite yet. But of course, the best time to start is
always now...

Gunnar
