Dear friends,

Here is AN 6.8.10, and the completion of the Arahattavagga.

Before that, I had two ideas:

1) Would it be possible to download the entire PED from the website: http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/pali/index.html
one page at a time? Maybe have a group of people do it, each downloading 100 pages and saving them, then putting it together in an HTML "book" and putting it in the files section? Would that be breaking any laws? It certainly would be helpful. I am willing to download part of the book, say 100 pages.

2) Would it make sense to divide the Anguttara up into sections? I will try to finish the book of sixes, if others would have time to translate the other sections. So far, not so much activity

Okay, on to AN 6.8.10:

1) "yaa ratti vaa divaso vaa aagacchati" is confusing for me, and I imagine that it might be an idiom meaning "as the days and nights go by..." Instead of following this line of thought, I have gone against the CSCD when they put a comma after aagacchati, and instead I put the comma before, and put aagacchati with the next "haaniyeva", giving as a translation "whether night or day, there comes a decline..."

2) "haani" and "parihaani" gave a technical problem, as I stubbornly tried to relate the two words but not equate them (i.e. rendering them with the same translation); I came up with a not quite natural "decline" and "declining away", as "pari" can also mean "away" (cp PED).

3) It's funny, the sutta seems at first glance to have at least eight items, not six, but the key I guess is to watch the word "hoti" and so "mahiccho hoti, vighaatavaa, asantu.t.tho, itariitaraciivarapi.n.dapaatasenaasanagilaanappaccayabhesajjaparikkhaarena" is one item.

Here is the sutta:
