Etha tumhe, Kaalaamaa, maa anussavena, maa

maa sama.no no garuuti. Yadaa tumhe, Kaalaamaa,

Come you, Kalamas, not by tradition, nor by hearsay,
nor by rumour, nor by the authority of the scriptures,
nor because a monk teaches us. When you, Kalamas,
know for yourselves these qualities are
unwholesome, these qualities are reprehensible, these
qualities are despised by the wise, these qualities
when taken up and grasped lead to harm and suffering
then, Kalamas, you would renounce them.

Metta,
John
