Hi Steve , Dimitry et al !!
According to the dictionary of the roots in Thai language, the root (dhaatu) bhikkha = yaacane , to beg.
Another analysis for bhikkhu :
samsaare bhayam ikkhati siilenaati = bhikkhu (jano)
One who see fear in the round of rebirths = bhikkhu (bhaya + ikkha root)

Whereas bhikkhaa has 2 meanings ,ie. 1.yaacana = as action noun, the act of begging
2.bhojana, things for eating,ie.food,boiled rice,begged food
sotthi vo hotu sabbadaa !

What would be the meaning of the root "bhikkh"?

Is there a dictionary available that gives the meaning of pali roots?

Thanks
Steve
