Hello, Group,

My name is Eric Van Horn, and I am new to the Pali Group. I am 51 years
old, I work as a software engineer, and I live in Colchester, Vermont.
I have been practicing meditation for about 12 1/2 years. I practiced
Zen first, initially through the Zen Mountain Monastery, and then with
Thich Nhat Hahn. I have also been been to a retreat with Lama Surya
Das, and I once belonged to Sogyal Rinpoche's organization. However,
for the past 5 years I have been practicing at the Insight Meditation
Society, and my main practice is Anapanasati. I consider Larry
Rosenberg to be my primary teacher, although I have also been greatly
influenced by Joseph Goldstein.

Over the last several years I became interested in the Pali suttas,
because reading about what the Buddha had said second hand made me want
to read what he had said first hand. I have read the Majjhima Nikaya
and the Samyutta Nikaya, and I am currently reading the Digha Nikaya.
Reading the Nikayas naturally led me to an interest in the Pali
language.

I have barely begun studying Pali, and I do not have a good track
record trying to learn languages. (What do you call someone who only
speaks one language? American.) However, I have the Pali Primer and the
Warder, and I am ready to give it my best effort.

Eric Van Horn
Colchester, Vermont
