Dear Connie and Nina,
In Seattle, where I live, there are many of Norwegian extraction. A
favorite expression among them is "Uff Da!", often seen e.g. on bumper
stickers. I'm told it's a colloquialism without an exact meaning, being
mainly an exclamation of surprise--as at having just stepped in something
accidentally...!
