Rahula, for you who are cultivating the mental development that is
like wind,

uppannaa manaapaamanaapaa phassaa citta.m na pariyaadaaya .thassanti.
arisen / pleasant and unpleasant / impressions / mind / not / having
overcome / will persist
pleasant and unpleasant impressions that have arisen will not
persistently overwhelm the mind.

Seyyathaapi, Raahula, vaayo sucimpi upavaayati, asucimpi upavaayati,
just as / Rahula / wind / also what is clean / blows on / also what
is dirty / blows on
Rahula, just as wind blows on what is clean and what is dirty,

upavaayati (v.) blows on/towards.

guuthagatampi upavaayati, muttagatampi upavaayati, khe.lagatampi
upavaayati, pubbagatampi upavaayati, lohitagatampi upavaayati,
also faeces / blows on / also urine / blows on / also spittle / blows
on / also pus / blows on / also blood / blows on
blows on faeces, urine, spittle, pus and blood,

na ca tena vaayo a.t.tiiyati vaa haraayati vaa jigucchati vaa;
not / and yet / because of it / wind / is afflicted / or / is vexed /
or / is disgusted
and yet wind is not afflicted, vexed or disgusted because of it.

evameva kho tva.m, Raahula, vaayosama.m bhaavana.m bhaavehi.
likewise / indeed / you / Rahula / wind-like / mental development /
cultivate
Likewise, Rahula, you should cultivate the mental development that is
like wind.

VaayosamaƱhi te, Raahula, bhaavana.m bhaavayato uppannaa
manaapaamanaapaa phassaa citta.m na pariyaadaaya .thassanti.
wind-like / for you / Rahula / mental development / is cultivating /

Rahula, for you who are cultivating the mental development that is

not persistently overwhelm the mind.

"Rahula, cultivate the mental development that is like wind. Rahula,

pleasant and unpleasant impressions that have arisen will not
persistently overwhelm the mind. Rahula, just as wind blows on what
is clean and what is dirty, blows on faeces, urine, spittle, pus and
blood, and yet wind is not afflicted, vexed or disgusted because of
it. Likewise, Rahula, you should cultivate the mental development
that is like wind. Rahula, for you who are cultivating the mental
development that is like wind, pleasant and unpleasant impressions
that have arisen will not persistently overwhelm the mind.
