In cases where there might be other translations or you are in doubt, give
your best shot in the main text, footnote (easier than end-notes) it with an
alternater translation ("alt tr"): "vario lectio" (vl) and "variae
lectiones" (vll) are meant for variant text readings. {I hope I got the
Latin plural right.)
