Friends:

m> Regarding rendering the word 'Sankhara' as 'Constructions'

m> Bhikkhu Nanamoli (Wheel 17):

m> "The Pali word sankhara (Sanskrit samskasa) means literally
m> 'a construction' and is derived from the prefix sam (con)
m> plus the verb karoti (to do, to make); compare the Latin
m> 'conficere' from con plus facere (to do), which gives
m> the French confection (a construction)."

I also translate sankhara as 'construction process'. For example,
vitakka and vicara (two kinds of thought) serve as construction
processes for the speech (vaci-sankhara). Breath serves as
construction process for the body (kaya-sankhara).
