Dear Teng Kee,

Thank-you for this message and the one before which I find very
interesting and which contain a good deal of new information on
grammars and authors that I've never heard of before. Thanks also for
mentioning O. Pind's name as he has some interesting grammar studies
in the JPTS which I will read some time later. I noticed that he is
the one who is working on an edition of Kaccaayana's grammar for PTS
which I'm looking forward to. I hope that we will have some more
discussions on these matters again in the near future. It's hard to
sort out all those grammars and grammarians. Is there a good book that
you'd recommend with a more comprehensive & up-to-date listing and
description than in the CPD and Geiger's Pali Literature and Language?

Best wishes,

Jim

> Dear Jim,
> I like to add some points.
> It is Nyaasa not nasa due to font problem as shown also in burmese
and sinhala texts.
> There are three muni vyakarana for pali existed even before writing
down of texts in leaves.Bodhisattathera vyakarana has 40 letters
without cere l ,sabbagunakara thera for 43 letters with short e and o
(moggalana wasn't invented new theories but 2000 years
concept.kaccayana 41 letters. The two Bodhi and sabba were missing
perhaps no body copied them into leaves much compare to kaccayana
famous as monk of buddha.
> Dhammananda sayadaw said in his kaccayana edition Bramhadatta wrote
down those vidhi udaharana on the present kaccayana ,this is why there
is no brahmadatta payoga book. This monk wrote down devanampiyatissa
and upagutta,so we must put him at least 3rd BC.
> As for all grammar texts are using partama for paccata etc in com.It
maybe they changed the original 6 bc kaccayana eidtion during the tika
period just for the trend which won't demaged much .
> We can say katantra copied kaccayana because we cannot find unadi
part in his.
