Sammodaniiya.m katha.m saaraa.niiya.m viitisaaretvaa - according to
the PED this is a stock phrase for exchanging courtesies, but
nevertheless its component parts can be broken down:
Sammodaniiya.m - accusative, future passive participle of sammodati,
so "that which would delight"
katha.m - accusative of kathaa, "speech"
saaraa.niiya.m - accusative (of manner?), future passive
participle, "that which would make happy"
viitisaaretvaa - PED gives as vi + ati + sr. "Having exchanged"
ekam anta.m - accusative (of manner?), "to one side." My text has no
sandhi between anta.m and the following a.t.thaasi, presumably
because their not closely related enough? (Sandhi in Pali applies
only to a limited number of grammatically-related situations.)
a.t.thaasi - aorist, 3rd person singular, "he stood." (Geiger gives
more than one aorist from the root sthaa. There is also the form
a.t.thaa.)
