Dear Frank,

"Seven" = Pali "satta", Skt "sapta"

As for Bojjha.nga, "limb of enlightenment" is another excellent translation.

I'm now reading Sue Hamilton's "Early Buddhism: A new approach" (2000) and
my approach to translation is reflected in Hamilton's ideas as mentioned in
her Introduction and the first 2 chapters (e.g. 59).

I see the Buddhist texts as "living spiritual literature" rather than as a
"technical manual". This is because without some level of practice (not that
I am enlightened or an advanced practitioner, but one who enjoys Buddhist
spirituality) no amount of technical exactitude can squeeze enlightenment
out of the dead words. I've heard many excellent practitioner monks who do
not render "good translations" that we are often used to but their teachings
shine far beyond these signboards.

The Buddhist texts is an excuse for us unenlightened beings to communicate
with one another, especially in Sutta Study, to discover ourselves to
greater heights of self-realization and spiritual freedom.

This website is a good reminder for me as such, and I thank everyone who
share this Rahula spirit of learning and spiritual curiosity.

Sukhi.

P.
