really useful, now it does make sense. Interesting how meanings can take
"chemins de traverse" -- i.e. right angle directions.

And in that case, it provides us with a valuable Pali word for a notion we
work hard at in our retreat, that excitements can be invasive and
overwhelming, thus blunting and dumbing. No more sense nor sensibility in
an age favoring excitements (and we are in a silly and dangerously childish
USA-influenced age where everything has to be "exciting"). No more
substance, no more intelligence of the body and mind, no more strength.

"du.t.thulla.m: the endeavour which we firmly applied was overcome by the
excitement that arose in us, and this made us slack. Therefore, there will
only be excitement."

How clearly this subtle yet pervasive reality is stated. Again, thanks for
your contribution. Could you provide me with the precise ref. in
