"Ma a u" is the break down for AUM. It was borrowed by some "Buddhist" for incantation purposes. Ma=Buddha, A=Dhamma and U=Sangha. AUM, like many other Brahman(Hindu) chants were "Buddha-fied" when they were brought to Thailand.
