Hi Terry

Sorry to take a while to get back to you. I can only use the excuse that my
filing system has let me down again (the system consists of carefully
arranged stacks of stuff among which I "will know exactly where to find..."
if you see what I mean!)

Shayne is currently studying under Greg Schopen at UCLA.

Among his several articles, the one of direct interest here:
Title:
The Existence of the Supposedly Non-existent Siksadatta-srimaneri : A New
Perspective on Parajika Penance
In:
Bunkkyo Kenkyu Vol 29, 149-178.

This is one of the outcomes of his thesis work at Canterbury. Since then he
has been looking at the Mulasarvastivadan Vinaya texts and there is also
another article in vol 30 of BK on this topic as well as other articles
published elsewhere (in the Festschrift for Sodo Mori for example).

His thesis was based around the Nandika story, which you can also check out
yourself in T1435 (Sarvastivadin), T1425 (Mahasamghika), T2121 (ditto),
T1428 (Dharmaguptaka), T1451 (Mul - see also sTog Ta 154b3-158a3 for the
Tibean version or the Mul-vinayavastu for the Sanskrit) for starters

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Robert Didham
