Dear Ven Kumâra
you mentioned that
"This is confirmed by Sayadaw U Silananda (Rector of ITBMU, Yangon; student of Mahasi Sayadaw), who was one of the editors at the CS, says the VRI CSCD's version is not the CS version, yet they call it so. So, he's working on producing the *real* CS version."
Could you tell me more about the CS Version on which Sayadaw U Silanada is working? I am eager to know about it.
Thank you in advance
with metta

You're right to say that the VRI CSCD version is *based* on the Chattha Sangayana (CS) version. However, we found out that the two are not entirely the same. There are some changes which are obviously deliberate and not typos. Off the cuff, I can mention that the CS uses "sa.mgha" while the VRI CSCD (up to version 3) have it as "sa.ngha". (I prefer the latter though. My teacher told me that the preference for "sa.mgha" is due to the way Burmese pronounce the word.) We came across some others, and suspect many more.
This is confirmed by Sayadaw U Silananda (Rector of ITBMU, Yangon; student of Mahasi Sayadaw), who was one of the editors at the CS, says the VRI CSCD's version is not the CS version, yet they call it so. So, he's working on producing the *real* CS version.
Also, in a reply to one of my error reports to VRI, I was told that they are receiving a lot of feedback on apparent errors. They suspect errors in their source. If they're trying to re-proofread it, it's going to take quite a while. I'm looking forward to it's "fourth"coming. [Hope they'd include the Pali-Chinese dictionary as planned.]
FYI, there's another "CS" version of the texts by Sitagu Buddhist Academy. Someone showed me the manuscript before it was printed and I've had a comparison made between their first 15 pages of their Majjhima Nikaya and that of CSCD. I found some errors and discrepancies particularly in the footnotes on variant readings. Despite my informing and urging to the Sayadaw to have it re-proofread (considering the frequency of suspicious elements) they went ahead to print it anyway. Some people are sometimes very hard to understand!
So, when quoting from the VRI CSCD, I rather not say that it's the CS (i.e., Sixth Council) version, because it may not be the same.
peace
Ven Kumâra
