I too wonder how it should be best translated. Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi uses:
- Sublime One, in his MN
- Fortunate One, in his SN

Would be good if we could ask him why?

I think I've also seen "Well-gone One".

In recent translations, 'Tathagata' has been left untranslated. As Dimitry said, perhaps we should leave 'Sugata' as it is too.
