Very cute, John, but it doesn't seem to apply all the time the expression is used.

I don't know how it could be put it in English, but I think you've in a way already translated it, that is, into a question mark.

I was thinking: The actual Pali scripts do not have punctuations such as question. So, fortunately there's something like "nu kho" to tell us it's a question, and not a statement.

Another problem is translating "eva". Often enough, translating it as "indeed" or any such emphatic words seems to be overdoing it. In such cases I go by my teacher's approach, that is to italicize the emphasized word.
