Keep companionship with good friends, and resort to solitary lodging,
secluded, quiet; be moderate in eating.

341. ... Mattaññuu hohi bhojane'ti pamaa.naññuu hohi,
pa.tiggaha.namatta.m paribhogamattañca jaanaahiiti attho.

mattaññuu - moderate, temperate (case???)
hohi - be (2nd person singular, imperative)
bhojane - in food, in meal, in nourishment (locative)
pamaa.naññuu - knowing the measure (limit, standard), moderate
pa.tiggaha.namatta.m - measure of receiving, taking
paribhogamattañca - and measure of use
jaanaahii'ti - know (2nd person singular, imperative) + ti
attho - meaning

The meaning of 'be moderate in eating' is 'be temperate, know the
measure in receiving and partaking'.

There moderation means that

one who collects alms should take being aware of his own strength.

Apica mattaayeva va.n.nitaa bhagavataati paribhogamattaññunaa
puttama.msa.m viya akkhabbhañjanamiva ca yoniso manasi karitvaa
bhojana.m paribhuñjitabbanti.

Moreover, the Blessed One explained this moderation: food should be

in the flesh of one's children or the grease of the axle.
