Does anyone have any insight as to why the Satipa.t.thaana Sutta (MN
10, or DN 22 for the Mahaa- version) uses the expression "atthi
kaayo"?

It seems to mean "there is body" (Walshe's DN 22 translation)
or "there is a body" (Bhikkhu Bodhi's MN translation).

But what is the point of such a statement? What is it telling us that
we don't already know?

The VRI translation has "this is body," which seems to make more
sense in the context of mindfulness practice.

But if that were what was intended, then surely the Pali would have
read somethink like "aya.m kaayo" or "aya.m kaayo 'tthi".

So why "atthi kaayo"?
