What is the sutta number and/or PTS page number for both the MN and
SN passages?

If the same Pali word is used in both places, then one fact that may
be relevant is that Bhikkhu Bodhi took over the MN translation from
Ven. Nanamoli, and Ven. Nanamoli had been trying to come up with a
consistent, standardized, 1-1 way of rendering Pali words in English.
