I should point out that in one of the Turkic languages (Yakut?) ang=animal.
It would seem that it refers to things that have consciousness.  The common word in Turkish for
animal is hayvan (said to be Iranian) in which I see the -an at the end e.g. hayv-an. What could
the first part mean in Iranian?
