The immediate cause of the problem has nothing to do with the current
discussion of Proto-Uralic, which I has touched on Indo-Uralic. (You may
remember Jens discussing the pre-PIE dual on Cybalist recently.)

When Gerry wished us luck, I thought she was turning her back on the group
and leaving me in charge. I appointed Miguel as reserve moderator lest
anything befall me.

Some of us have never been happy with the wider aspects mentioned in the
group description. I decided I should trim the tail of the group
description, and firm it up to ensure that discussion of the relationship of
Romanian and Latin was off-topic. As I wasn't totally sure about my
position, I notified Gerry, but did not ask her permission. I cut and
pasted the existing description so that if she objected to my change she
could always restore it. Ownership has its privileges.

Gerry thought I had overstepped the mark, and that Miguel and I were in
cahoots. She therefore dismissed me and Miguel. She could have thrown me
off the group, but you will notice that despite her harsh words, which she
has now at least partially withdrawn, I am still in the group.

Richard.
