This is interesting. I can add some modern Finnish cognates if it's
of any interest. One item caught my eye because it pointed to
something that helped spark my interest in the first place.

In Finnish kah- = 2, yh- = 1
nom. kaksi = 2, yksi = 1

In -teksan there is a remnant of the numeric designator, nde/nte. It
is the first -t-.

Kah-d-e-k-sa-n = 8, can be analysed as followes
kah- = 2
-d- is the numberic designator
-e- is negation. 'ei' = no/not in Finnish <*e
-k- modal verbal ending
-sa- 3rd person
-n dual

The meaning therefore is 'two missing' (from 10).

In the same way yhdeksän = 9 means 'one missing'.

(from Soumen Sanojen Alkuperä)

Earlier -deksan was explained as possibly being related to the 10
word - Latin 'decem', but that explanation has been superceded by the
above.
