That is not a fair question. The thematic vowel came, along with all other
material of the language, from a prestage of the language. I do not need
to explain that the subjunctive is marked by a vowel any more than I have
to explain that the accusative has an /m/, or that the word for foot
begins with a /p/. Even without explanations, however, I can establish the
facts I observe.
