I do not think my view is very different from yours.

My main concern was actually how much transformation can infact ocure
in a language in a short time.

Therefore I do not think all those characteristics of IU root
structure could have developed in just a short time just before early
IU.

The time span between steppe and early IU may be great enough for all
those transformations (4000 years?)
