What you and Bomhard propose is:

-Afro-Asiatic
-Kartvelian
-Elamite-Darvidian
-Sumerian
-Eurasiatic

Question:  Cannot Afro-Asiatic and Eurasiatic combine to produce Afro-Eurasiatic?

Thusly:

-Afro-Eurasiatic
-Kartvelian
-Elamite-Dravidian
-Sumerian

Your analogy of language classification to a cracked windshield is good.  Alekseev always said that all languages are related even at the earliest of dates.  And why is Sumerian in a category all by itself?  Isn't it related to Elamite-Dravidian?

Something like that.  Another grouping based on Bomhard with some of my own ideas:

Afro-Asiatic
  North (Hamito-Semitic)
    Semitic
    Egyptian
    Berber
  South (Cushito-Chadic)
    Cushitic
    Omotic
    Chadic
Kartvelian (aka South Caucasian: Georgian, Mingrelian, Svan and Laz)
Elamite-Dravidian
  Elamite
  Indus Valley
  North D. (inc. Brahui)
  Central D.
  South-Central D. (inc. Telugu)
South D. (inc. Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada)
Sumerian (possibly closer to Elamite-Dravidian)
Eurasiatic
  Indo-European
    Anatolian (Hittite and Luwian)
    European Centum
      Celtic
      Italic
      Greek
      Germanic
      Tocharian
    European Satem
      Baltic
      Slavonic
      Albanian
      Armenian
    Indo-Iranian
      Iranian
      Indic (or Indo-Aryan)
  Uralic-Yukaghir
    Finno-Ugric
      Finnic (Finnish, Estonian, Karelian etc.)
      Ugric (Hungarian, Ostyak, Mansi)
      Sámi (or Lappish)
    Samoyed (Nenets, Ngagasan etc.)
    Yukaghir
  Altaic
    Turkic
    Mongolian
    Tungusic
  "Boreanesian" (possibly closer to Altaic)
    Japanese-Ryukyuan
    Korean
    Gilyak (Nivkh)
    ? Ainu
  "Arctic" or "Sibero-American"
    Chukchi-Kamchatkan
      Chukchi (inc. Koryak-Kerek-Alyutor)
      Kamchadal (or Itelmen)
    Eskimo-Aleut
      Yupik (Alaskan and Siberian)
      Inuktitut (inc. Greenlandic)
      Aleut

Remember, the Boreanesian and Arctic proposals are my own speculation.  The former is mainly a lumping together of "leftovers" more or less linked with Altaic or whatever.

In the past, I had divided Nostratic into West Nostratic (AA, IE, Kart.) and East Nostratic (Ural., Alt., Drav.), but that would break up Eurasiatic, which has a strong case as it has been proposed by both Greenberg and Bomhard.

Note that I see language classification not as family trees, but as radiating lines from a common origin, a lot like a crack in a windshield.

Sounds impressive.  Does this now imply a Nostratic Mega Family has been determined?  V. Alekseev based on Illich-Svitych proposed:

Nostratic Mega Family
- Indo-European
- Semitic
-Kartvelian
-Dravidian
-Uralo-Altaic
-Yuhaghirian
-Semitic (Cushitic)
