Okay, let's try this again. I was thinking about our "tongue"
word and I've come up with this idea:

1. Steppe *k:ali "he,she,it says" [3ps]
-IndoTyrrhenian *k:l (IE *g^el-)
-AltaicGilyak *kli
-Boreal *kli

2. Steppe *k:a:l "tongue"
-IndoTyrrhenian *k::l
-AltaicGilyak *ka:l
-Boreal *kli

So basically, the verb *k:al- "to say" (*k:alim, *k:alit, *k:ali...)
begets a nominal derivation *k:a:l "tongue" (lit. "that which
speaks") with automatic lengthening of the monosyllabic stem. This,
and not laryngeals, causes the lengthening seen in Uralic and Altaic.
If the IndoT reflex is present at all, we should find **g^e:l in IE
and */ci/ in Etruscan.

As for Altaic *n'a:r'... I'd like to re-reconstruct it with *n-.
