Þorvaldur mælti: "Svo er mál með vexti að eg vil þess beiða að þú takir við Þórólfi stærimanni til varðveislu og trausts.
Thorvaldr said: “The case stands so that I will ask that you receive well Thorolfr “rough-man” (?) for custody and protection. (Z. vöxtr 5 - svá er mál með vexti, at, the case stands so that)
Mun eg fá þér þrjár merkur silfurs og vináttu mína."
I will give you three ounces of silver and my friendship.”
"Þar er sá maður," svarar Starri, "er mér þykir ekki vinsæll og óvíst að honum fylgi hamingja.
“There is the man,” answers Starr, “who does not seem to me popular and un-wise that luck follows him.
En sakir okkars vinskapar þá vil eg við honum taka."
But for the sake of our friendship, then I will receive him.”
"Þá gerir þú vel," segir Þorvaldur.
“Then you do well,” says Thorvaldr.
Sneri hann þá skildinum og frá sér hvolfinu og er Þórólfur sér það gengur hann fram og tók Starri við honum.
He then turns the shield and from its cavity and when Thorolfr himself goes forward and received Starri.
Starri átti jarðhús í Guðdölum því að jafnan voru með honum skógarmenn.
Starri had a sod house in Guddales because they were equal between him and outlaws. (?)
Átti hann og nokkuð sökótt.
He also had some quarrels.

Hann býst heiman og fer norður til Skagafjarðar við þrjá tigi manna.
He gets ready for a journey from home and goes north to Skajafiord with 29 men.
Hann kemur á Miklabæ og er honum þar vel fagnað.
He arrives at Mikla-farm and he is well received there.
Segir hann hversu af stóð um ferðir hans: "Ætla eg að hafa fram vígsmálið nú á Hegranessþingi á hendur Þórólfi stærimanni.
He tells how it stood concerning his journey: “I intend to proceed with the suit of manslaughter now at the Hegraness assembly against Thorolfr “rough man.”
Vildi eg að þú værir mér um þetta mál liðsinnaður."
I wanted that you would be ready to help me concerning this case.”
Arnór svarar: "Ekki þykir mér þú Bolli vænt stefna út er þú sækir norður hingað, við slíka ójafnaðarmenn sem hér er að eiga.
Arnor answers: “It doesn't seem to me, Bolli, (that) you expect a summons out (?) when you visit north here, which such overbearing men as here is to have. (?)
Munu þeir þetta mál meir verja með kappi en réttindum.
They will defend this case more with zeal than justice.
En ærin nauðsyn þykir mér þér á vera.
But it seems to me to be sufficient need to you.
Munum vér og freista að þetta mál gangi fram."
We will also attempt that this case go forward.”
Arnór dregur að sér fjölmenni mikið.
Arnor collects to himself a large crowd.
Ríða þeir Bolli til þingsins.
They, Bolli (and the others), ride to the assembly.
Þeir bræður fjölmenna mjög til Hegranessþings.
The brothers gathered many at the assembly at Hegraness.
Þeir hafa frétt um ferðir Bolla.
They had heard about Bolli's journey.
Ætla þeir að verja málið.
They intend to defend the case.
Og er menn koma til þingsins hefir Bolli fram sakir á hendur Þórólfi.
And when people arrived at the Thing, Bolli proceeds with (the suit) on account of Thorolf's hand.
Og er til varna var boðið gengu þeir til Þorvaldur og Starri við sveit sína og hugðu að eyða málinu fyrir Bolla með styrk og ofríki.
And when the defendant was called to begin his pleadings, they went to Thorvaldr and Starri with his company of men and intended to dismiss the case before Bolli with force and tyranny. (Z. vörn (2) in law, defence, opp. to ‘sókn’; bjóða til varna, to call on the defendant to begin his pleadings
En er þetta sér Arnór gengur hann í milli með sína sveit og mælti: "Það er mönnum einsætt að færa hér eigi svo marga góða menn í vandræði sem á horfist að menn skuli eigi ná lögum um mál sín.
And when Arnor sees this, he goes in between with his body of men and said: “It is clear to people that few here not so many good men in difficulty as it looks that men should not get a lawful trial concerning his case. (Z. einsætt - clear, evident, only in the phrase, e-t er einsætt, is the only thing to be done)[However, I didn't see how “is the only thing to be done” fit, here, so I went with “clear.”]
Er og ófallið að fylgja Þórólfi um þetta mál.
And it is unbecoming to help Thorolfr concerning this case.
