In context ‘recovered’ seems about right.

Thin, and in particular thin of face, if we’re to believe
‘Hrólfs saga kraka ok kappa hans’, in which a fellow named
Vögg says of Hrólf:

Þunnleitr er þessi maðr ok nokkurr kraki í andlitinu ...

This man is thin-faced and rather a pole-ladder in the
face ...
