Snorri spyr hvað hann vill.

Snorri asks what he wants. (“Can’t you see I am trying to get a little shut eye?”)

Hann svarar: "Nú er örninn gamli floginn á æslið á Örlygsstaði.”

He answers: “The old eagle has now flown to (æslið?) at Orlygstad.”

Snorri stóð upp og bað menn klæðast.

Snorri got up and told people to get dressed.

And when they were dressed, (they) then took their weapons and went, nine (al)together, inwards, across the ice to Alftafjard.

And when they came in to the head of the firth, Thorbrand’s sons, totaling 6, arrived to meet them.    (Z. mót  4 - til móts við e-n = to meet one)

Fóru þeir síðan upp til Örlygsstaða.

They then went up to Orlygstad.

Og er þeir komu þar þá hafði þrællinn einn heim farið með heyhlassið en þeir Arnkell voru þá að gera annað.

And when they arrived there, one thrall alone had then gone home with the load of hay, and they, Arnkell (and the other thralls) were then doing the second (a second load of hay? Were going home second?)     (Z. vera 6 – vera at gera e-t = to be doing a thing)

Þá sáu þeir Arnkell að vopnaðir menn fóru frá sæ neðan.

They, Arnkell (and the others) then saw that armed men went up from the sea.

Ofeigr said that there would be hostilities “and it is only that we should go home.”

Arnkell svarar: "Hér kann eg gott ráð til því að hér skulu gera hvorir það er betra þykir.

Arnekell answers: “Here I know a good plan because here each shall do that which seems best (literally “better”).

You shall run home and wake up my attendants and they will come like a shot to meet me, and here is a vantage ground in the haystack, and I will from here defend myself if these are hostile men because it seems to me it (is) better than running (away).

Mun eg eigi skjótt verða sóttur.

I will not quickly become overcome.

Munu mínir menn koma skjótt til móts við mig ef þið rekið drengilega erindið.”

My men will come quickly to meet me if you perform your (literally “the”) task job bravely.

And when Arnkell had said this, the thralls took to their heels.    (Z. hefja 5 – hefja á rás, to take to one’s feet)

Varð Ófeigur skjótari.

It happened Ofeigr (was) the faster.

He became so frightened that he went nearly out of his wits and ran up a mountain and then into a waterfall and perished, and it is called there Ofeig’s waterfall.     (Z. vit 3 - ganga af vitinu, to go out of one’s wits, go mad [& glosses this sentence])

The second thrall ran home to the farm, and when he came to the barn door, his comrade was in front of him and was carrying in the hay.

He calls to that thrall who ran that he should bring in the hay with him, and it was perceived that the thrall was not adverse to the work, and he went with him.

Nú er að segja frá Arnkatli að hann kenndi ferð þeirra Snorra goða.

Now it is (time) to tell concerning Arnkell, that he learned of their, Snorri and the others’, journey.

Þá reif hann meiðinn undan sleðanum og hafði upp í garðinn með sér.

Then he tore (off) the sledge runner from under the sledge and had (it) up in the stronghold with him.

The stronghold was high except grown up from within, and it was a good battle.  (?)

Hay was in the stronghold and taken to (garðsetar?).
