"Vera má að svo sé," segir Guðrún, "en heldur mundi eg ætla að þar mundir þú drepa skeggi í Breiðafjörð niður.”

“It can so be,” says Gudrun, “but I would rather advise that there you would kill off a beard (i.e., man) in Broad-fiord.”    (Z. drepa 5 – drepa niðr, to kill off).

That summer, Thorkell launched his ship makes ready for Norway.   (Z. setja 11 – setja fram skip, to launch a ship)

Gellir son hans var þá tólf vetra gamall.

His son Gellir was then 12 years old.

Hann fór utan með föður sínum.

He went abroad with his father.

Thorkell proclaims that, that he intends to seek for himself a church timber and sails at once to sea when he was ready.

Hann hafði hægja útivist og eigi allskamma.

He had abated being out at sea and not very short.

Taka þeir Noreg norðarla.

The land north in Norway.

Þá sat Ólafur konungur í Þrándheimi.

King Olafr then was staying in Trondheim.

Þorkell sótti þegar á fund Ólafs konungs og með honum Gellir son hans.

Thorkell at once sought a meeting with King Olafr and with him his son Gellir.

Þeir fengu þar góðar viðtökur.

They got a good reception there.

Thorkell was so greatly valued by the king that winter that it is said by everybody that the king game him no less money than 100 marks of refined silver.

The king gave Gellir at yule a cloak, and it was the most jewel and excellent treasure. (??)

Þann vetur lét Ólafur konungur gera kirkju í bænum af viði.

That winter the king had Olafr build a church in the village from wood.

A very large temple was established there and all elaborately built.

During the spring the felled trees were transported to the ship that that the King gave Thorkatl.

The lumber was both much and good because Thorkell approached. (??)

Það var einn morgun snemma að konungur gekk út við fá menn.

It was early one morning that the King went out with a few men.

Hann sá mann uppi á kirkju þeirri er í smíð var þar í bænum.

He saw a man up in their church who was building (the church) there in the town.

Hann undraðist þetta mjög því að morgni var minnur fram komið en smiðar voru vanir upp að standa.

He wondered much about this because at morning it appeared less than building (those who) were accustomed to being up.  (??)

Konungur kenndi manninn.

The king recognized the man.

It was Thorkell Eyholfson and (he) measured all the largest tree, both cut into bits and one of the long beams along the walls joining the pillars and a post.    (Z. mál (second entry) 1 - leggja, bera m. við e-t, to measure)

The king turned at once to there and said: “What is it now, Thorkell, do you intend here after to fashion the church which you (will) transport to Iceland?”

Þorkell svarar: "Satt er það herra.”

Thorkell answers: “It is the truth, sire.”

Þá mælti Ólafur konungur: "Högg þú af tvær alnar hverju stórtré og mun sú kirkja þó ger mest á Íslandi.”

Then king Olafr said: “You hew two ells every large tree and will that church yet go most to Iceland.” (?)
