that he would hold [to] it, because he said that
disagreements have not broken [it] lawfully [i.e., it has
not been successfully challenged at law]; [he] asked them
not to lay claim to this property, because he said that he
would keep [it] as his patrimony.

CV actually does have <váttasaga> 'a declaration'; it’s
literally 'witness-statement'. We have here <ganga á e-t>
'to break something'.
