Snorri said for himself (he) thinks (it is) clear to not thwart Thorkatl. (Z. hnekkja 1 – hnekkja e-m frá, to repel, repulse)

Eftir það lét Snorri kalla þangað sonu Guðrúnar, hefir þá uppi við þá málið og tjár hversu mikill styrkur þeim mætti verða að Þorkatli fyrir sakir fjárafla hans og forsjá og taldi þar um mjúklega.
After that Snorri caused to call there Gudrun's sons, takes up then talking and tells how greatly strong they can become to Thorkatl for the sake of his property and foresaw and said there about gently.

Þá svarar Bolli: "Móðir mín mun þetta glöggvast sjá kunna.
Then Bolli answers: "My mother will most clearly (glöggvast is related to gløggr?) know that.

Vil eg hér um hennar vilja samþykkja.
Here I want to consent concerning her wish.

En víst þykir oss ráðlegt að virða það mikils er þér flytjið þetta mál Snorri því að þú hefir marga hluti stórvel gert til vor."
But certainly it seems to us advisable (?) to estimate that much when to you conveyed this case to Snorri because you have many right well parts done for us."

Þá mælti Guðrún: "Mjög munum vér hlíta forsjá Snorra um þetta mál því að oss hafa þín ráð heil verið."
Then Gudrun said: "We will much trust Snorri's foresight concerning this matter because your advice has been sound to us."

Snorri fýsti í hverju orði og réðst það af að ráðahagur skyldi takast með þeim Guðrúnu og Þorkatli.
Snorri urged in each report and advised that of that a marriage should take place between them, Gudrun and Thorkatl.

Bauð Snorri að hafa boð inni.
Snorri offered to have (the) wedding feast at his home. (Z. inni - hafa boð inni, to hold a (wedding-) feast at one's home.

Þorkatli líkaði það vel "því að mig skortir eigi föng til að leggja fram svo sem yður líkar."
That suited Thorkatl well "because provisions aren't lacking to me to allot from as you like."

Þá mælti Guðrún: "Það er vilji minn að boð þetta sé hér að Helgafelli.
Then Gudrun said: "It is my wish that this wedding be here at Helgafell.

Vex mér ekki það fyrir augum að hafa hér kostnað fyrir.
It didn't increase to me before eyes to have cost before here. (could this apply even though it uses "í" rather than "fyrir"? Z. auga 1 - e-m vex e-t í augu, one has scruples about)

Mun eg hvorki til þess krefja Þorkel né aðra að leggja starf á þetta."
For this I will neither demand (that) Thorkel nor any other to discharge work in this."

"Oft sýnir þú það Guðrún," segir Snorri, "að þú ert hinn mesti kvenskörungur."
"You often show that, Gudrun," says Snorri, "that you are the most stately lady."

Verður nú það af ráðið að brullaup skal vera að Helgafelli að sex vikum sumars.
It now comes to pass the plan that (the) wedding shall be at Helgafell on the sixth week of summer. (Z verða 8 - verða af e-u, to come to pass)

Fara þeir Snorri og Þorkell við þetta á brott.
With this, they, Snorri and Thorkell go away.

Fór Snorri heim en Þorkell til skips.
Snorri went home, and Thorkel to (his) ship.

Er hann ýmist um sumarið í Tungu eða við skip.
During the summer he is either in Tongue or aboard ship.

Líður til boðsins.
The wedding takes place. (or "Time passes to the wedding")

Guðrún hefir mikinn viðurbúnað og tilöflun.
Gudrun has much preparation and providing of supplies.

Snorri goði sótti þessa veislu með Þorkatli og höfðu þeir nær sex tigu manna og var það lið mjög valið því að flestir allir menn voru í litklæðum.
Chieftain Snorri sought this assistance with Thorkatl and they had nearly 60 men and that was a very select group of men because almost all men were colored clothing.

Guðrún hafði nær hundrað fyrirboðsmanna.
Gudrun had almost 100 wedding guests (interestingly, I don't find "fyrirboðsmanna" "or "fyrirboðsmaðr" in Z. or CV. I do see "boðsmaðr - guest at a feast. Not sure how much the prefix "fyrir" changes the meaning).

Þeir bræður, Bolli og Þorleikur, gengu í mót þeim Snorra og með þeim fyrirboðsmenn.
The brothers, Bolli and Thorleikr, went to meet them, Snorri (and the others), and with them the wedding guests.

Er Snorra allvel fagnað og hans föruneyti.
Snorri and his retinue are greeted very well.

Er nú tekið við hestum þeirra og klæðum.
Their horses and clothes are now received. ("take við" = "receive," but I don't think this applies here, because it makes little sense unless it means they parked their horses and took their coats to the checkroom.)

Var þeim fylgt í stofu.
They (Snorri and friends) were led to the sitting-room.

Skipuðu þeir Þorkell og Snorri bekk annan, þann er æðri var, en boðsmenn Guðrúnar hinn óæðra bekk.
They, Thorkell and Snorri, occupied one bench, that which was more exalted, and Gudrun's wedding guests the not-highest bench.
