Búi mælti: "Þá skal vel við því taka."
Bui spoke, “Then (you all) shall get a hearty welcome.”
Þá veittu þeir honum atsókn en hann varðist prúðlega. Kolfinnur eggjaði sína
menn en hlífðist sjálfur við
Then they gave him an attack but he defended himself manfully. Kolfinn
urged his men on but spared himself
því að hann ætlaði sér afburð. En þeim var Búi torsóttur því að þótt þeir
kæmu höggum eða lögum á hann
because he intended superiority? for himself (he wanted to be the one who
gave the final blow?) But Bui was hard for them to overcome because
although they came with blows or thrusts at him
þá varð hann ekki sár þar er skyrtan tók en hver sem hann kom höggum á þá
þurfti eigi um að binda. Var

happened
þá svo komið að sex menn voru látnir af Kolfinni en hinir allir sárir. Búi
var sár á fæti.
so that six men were slain of Kolfinn’s but all the rest wounded. Bui was
wounded on (the) legs.
Kolfinnur mælti þá: "Mikið tröll ertu Búi," sagði hann, "er þú verst svo
lengi jafnmörgum mönnum."
Kolfinn spoke then, “Bui, you are a great troll,” said he, “you are worst
even more so long among men.”
Búi mælti: "Þú hefir í leikandi einni haft og er það klækilegt að þora eigi
að sækja að mér."
Bui spoke, “You have in jest by far had? and it is cowardly to not dare to
attack me.”
Kolfinnur mælti: "Það mundi eg vilja að þú ættir það að segja að eg hlífist
eigi við áður en lúki."
Kolfinn spoke, “I would want it that you had it to say that I did not spare
myself previously than end (die?)?”
Hljóp Kolfinnur þá að Búa með brugðið sverð og hjó hvert að öðru. Búi hlífði
sér með skildinum.
Kolfinn ran then to Bui with drawn sword and each hewed at the other. Bui
protected himself with the shield.
Kolfinnur hjó hart og tíðum og sótti alldrengilega. Hjóst þá allmjög
skjöldur Búa. En er Kolfinni rénaði
Kolfinn hewed hard and frequently and attacked very bravely. (He?) fought
then very hard (against) Bui’s shield. But when for Kolfinn the onslaught
decreased

hann þá taka lík Kolfinns og sjá fyrir því.
Grim said so should it be. Kolfinns comrades also then received a truce
from Bui. He bade them take Kolfinn’s body and take care of it.
Búi tók þá hest sinn. Reið hann þar til er hann kom ofan til Elliðavatns.
Ólöf var úti og heilsaði Búa.
Then Bui caught his horse. He rode until he came down to Ellida Water.
Olof was outside and greeted Bui.
Hann bað hana taka klæði sín og fara með sér. Hún gerði svo. Reið hún með
Búa til Kollafjarðar. Kolli
He bade her take her clothing and go with him. She did so. She rode with
Bui to Kolli’s Firths. Kolli
var úti og fagnaði vel Búa og bauð honum þar að vera. Búi kveðst mundu eiga
þar dvöl nokkura við
