Þórarinn búandi í Tungu lýsir því að hann vildi selja Tunguland.
Farmer Thorarin in Tungu gave notice that, that he wanted to sell Tungu-land (Tongue-land).

Var það bæði að honum þurru lausafé enda þótti honum mjög vaxa þústur milli manna í héraðinu en honum var kært við hvoratveggju.
That was to him both decreasing money (i.e., he was running short on cash) and also it seemed to him enmity was greatly growing in the area and he was close to both (feuding parties).

Bolli þóttist þurfa að kaupa sér staðfestu því að Laugamenn höfðu fá lönd en fjölda fjár.
Bolli thought (he) wanted to buy himself a residence because the people of Lauga had land a wealth of money.

Þau Bolli og Guðrún riðu í Tungu að ráði Ósvífurs.
They, Bolli and Gudrun, rode to Tungu with Osvifur's consent.

Þótti þeim í hönd falla að taka upp land þetta hjá sér sjálfum og bað Ósvífur þau eigi láta smátt slíta.
It seemed to them (it) falls in (their) hands to extend this land beside themselves and asked the Osvifurs not to let (the) deal break (i.e., not miss snapping up the deal before it's gone).

Síðan réðu þau Þórarinn um kaup þetta og urðu ásátt hversu dýrt vera skyldi og svo það er í móti skyldi vera og var mælt til kaups með þeim Bolla.
The they, the Thorarinns, rode concerning this purchase and became agreed to terms however expensive it would be and so that when against would be and was agreed to purchase with the Bollis.

En því var kaupið eigi vottum bundið að eigi voru menn svo margir hjá að það þætti vera lögfullt.
And that was not bought witnesses bound that not so many people were present that that was lawful.

Ríða þau Bolli og Guðrún heim eftir þetta.
They, Bolli and Gudrun, ride home for this.

En er Kjartan Ólafsson spyr þessi tíðindi ríður hann þegar við tólfta mann og kom í Tungu snemma dags.
And when Kjartan Olafsson learns of this news he rides at once with 11 men and came to Tungu early in the day.

Fagnar Þórarinn honum vel og bauð honum þar að vera.
Thorarinn welcomes him well and asked him to stay there.

Kjartan kvaðst heim mundu ríða um kveldið en eiga þar dvöl nokkura.
Kjartan stated for himself (he) would ride home during the evening but (would) have a stay there.

Þórarinn frétti að um erindi.
Thorarinn asked concerning (Kjartan's) business.

Kjartan svarar: "Það er erindi mitt hingað að ræða um landkaup það nokkuð er þér Bolli hafið stofnað því að mér er það í móti skapi ef þú selur land þetta þeim Bolla og Guðrúnu."
Kjartan answers: "That is my errand: hither to speak concerning that, some purchase of land which you arranged with Bolli because to me that is against (my) mind if you sell this land to them, Bolli and Gudrun."

Þórarinn kvað sér vanhenta annað "því að verðið skal bæði ríflegt, það er Bolli hefir mér fyrir heitið landið, og gjaldast skjótt."
Thorarin said himself not suitable the other "because the price will both (be good), that which Bolli has promised for me, and (he) is returning rapidly."

Kjartan mælti: "Ekki skal þig í skaða þó að Bolli kaupi eigi landið því að eg mun kaupa þvílíku verði og ekki mun þér duga mjög í móti að mæla því sem eg vil vera láta því að það mun á finnast að eg vil hér mestu ráða í héraði og gera þó meir eftir annarra manna skaplyndi en Laugamanna."
Kjartan said: "It will not harm you even if Bolli didn't buy the land because I will buy (at) such a price and it will not do you much against to speak/settle thus as I will be lose (?) because that will be pleased that I will here mostly decide in the region and do although more after other people's disposition than the people of Lauga."

Þórarinn svarar: "Dýrt mun mér verða drottins orð um þetta mál.
Thorarinn answers: "The master's word is strong concerning this case.

En það væri næst mínu skaplyndi að kaup þetta væri kyrrt sem við Bolli höfum stofnað."
Bat that would be nearer to my mind that this purchase would be still as has been arranged with Bolli."
