(The) king spoke: “You look to that yourself (You work that out for yourself)”

Búi mælti: "Það munu margir mæla herra að þetta sé forsending en þó mun eg undir játast.
Búi spoke: “Many (people) will say that, Lord, that this would-be a dangerous-mission but still I will engage myself (see játast undir e-t, Z6).

Vil eg þá að þér festið mér grið þar til er eg kann aftur að koma."
I want then that you fasten (guarantee, pledge) domicile (‘a safe haven’ or ‘a pardon’, I couldn´t really decide but inclined to the former) for me until I am-able-to come back.

Konungur kvað svo vera skyldu.
(The) king declared (it) should be so.

Búi fór þá braut úr bænum og var um sumarið inn í Þrándheimi.
Búi went then away out-of the town (dat sg + dat sg article suffixed) and was during the-summer inside in Þrándheim.

Hann fréttist þá fyrir um örnefni. Var honum þá sagt hvar Dofrafjall var.
He enquired (fréttast fyrir, Z3) concerning local-names. (It) was then said to him where Dofrafjall  (Dofri’s-Mountain) was.

Chapter 13

Öndverðan vetur þá er snjó lagði á fjöll sneri Búi ferð sinni upp í byggðina.
At-the-beginning-of winter when snow lay on (the) mountains, Búi turned (directed) his journey up into the-inhabited-districts.

Dvaldist hann þá í ofanverðri byggðinni um hríð með bónda þeim er Rauður hét.
He dwelt then in the uppermost inhabited-district for a while with that farmer (dat sg) who was-called Rauðr (Red).

Búi spurði Rauð ef hann kynni nokkuð ráð til að leggja með honum
Búi asked Rauðr if he should-know some advice to put towards (contribute, give, offer up, leggja til e-t, Z14) to him

að hann kæmi fram ferðinni.
(so) that he should carry out(effect, lit: bring-forward, koma fram e-u, Z4) the-journey.

Rauður mælti: "Marga menn hefir konungur sent þessa erindis og hefir engi aftur komið

og auðsýnt er mér að konungur vill þig feigan.
and (it) is easily-seen to me that (the) king wants you fated-to-die (ie dead).
