Búi létti eigi fyrr sinni ferð en hann kom norður í Hrútafjörð.
Bui didn't stop until he came north to Hrutafjord. (Z. létta 3 - l. e-u, to desist from, leave off; l. ferð sinni, to stop one's journey, to halt)

Tók hann sér þar fari og er þeir voru búnir sigldu þeir á haf.
He took for himself there a boat and when they were ready they sailed to sea.

Þeir bræður Helgi og Vakur tóku sér fari um sumarið í Kollafirði og fóru utan báðir.
The brothers, Helgi and Vakur, took for themselves a boat during the summer in Kollfirth and both went abroad.

Þeir tóku Noreg og fóru til hirðar Haralds konungs hins hárfagra.
They reached Norway and went to the bodyguard of King Harald the Fine-Hair.

Voru þeir með konungi um veturinn og þokkuðust hverjum manni vel.
They were with the King during the winter and everyone liked (them) a lot.

Þeir sögðu konungi frá skiptum þeirra Búa.
The told the king about their parting (with) Bua.

Lét konungur illa yfir því er Búi hafði brennt hofið og kallaði það níðingsverk.
The King expressed disapproval of (that) because Bui had burnt the temple and called that a dastard's work.


12. kafli
Nú er að segja frá Búa.
Now it is told of Bua.

Þeim byrjaði seint og tóku Orkneyjar um haustið síðarla.
The wind blew them slowly and they reached the Orkney islands during the late autumn.

Þá réð eyjunum Einar jarl Rögnvaldsson.
Earl Einar, son of Rognvald, ruled the islands.

Búi fór til hirðar jarls og gekk fyrir hann og kvaddi hann.
Bui went to the Earl's bodyguard and presented himself before him and greeted him.

Jarl spurði hver hann væri.
(The) earl asked who we was.

Búi sagði af hið ljósasta "og vildi eg þiggja veturvist með yður herra."
Bui declared most clearly "I also wanted to receive a winter abode (a place to crash for the winter) from your lordship.

Jarl segir: "Fylgd góð mun í þér.
(The) earl says: "You will accompany me. (??)

Skaltu víst vera með oss í vetur ef þú vilt."
You will certainly be with us for the winter if you want."

Búi var með hirð jarlsins um veturinn.
Bui was with the Earl's bodyguard during the winter.

Einar jarl hafði starfsamt um veturinn.
The same earl had much trouble during the winter.

Var Búi hinn öruggasti í öllum mannraunum.
Bui was the most fearless in all dangers.

En um vorið er skip það bjóst til Noregs er Búi hafði þangað á farið þá gekk Búi fyrir jarl og bað hann orlofs.
And during the spring when the ship was ready (to sail) for Norway when Bui had gone there then Bui went before the earl and asked him for permission to depart.

Jarl segir: "Hitt þykir mér ráðlegra Búi að þú dveljist með oss.
(The) earl says: "It seems to me advisable, Bui, that you stay with us.

Höfum vér þig að röskum manni reynt.
We have proved you to be a brave man.

Munum vér leiða þig í hirðlög og láta þig taka þar með aðrar sæmdir ef þú vilt hér vera."
We will lead (i.e., accept) you in the community of the king's men and cause you (to) take there with other honors if you wanted (to) stay here.

Búi þakkaði jarli með fögrum orðum en kveðst vilja til Noregs.
Bui thanked the earl with fine words but stated for himself (to) want (to go) to Norway.

Jarl kvað svo vera skyldu.
The earl said it would be so.

Eftir það sigldu þeir til Noregs og komu að norðarlega.
After that they sailed to Norway and arrived far in the north.

Spurðu þeir að Haraldur konungur sat í Þrándheimi.
They found out that King Harald was staying in Trondheim.

Fór Búi til Þrándheims á einum byrðingi.
Bui went to Trondheim on a certain merchant ship.

Og er hann kom til Steinkera þá gekk hann fyrir konung er hann sat yfir borðum og kvaddi hann vel.
And when he came to Steinkera, then he went before the King where he sat at a table and greeted him well.

Konungur spurði hver sá væri hinn mikli maður.
The King asked who this was, the large man.

Búi sagði til allt hið sanna.
Bui told him all the truth.

Konungur spurði hvar hann hefði verið um veturinn.
The King asked where he had been during the winter.

Búi sagði honum "og er eg því hér kominn herra," sagði hann, "að eg vil bjóða yður mína þjónustu."
Bui told him "and therefore I have come here, Lord," he said, "that I will offer you my service."

Konungur mælti: "Muntu nokkuð eiga hér vel kvæmt?"
The King said: "Will you (nokkuð = nökkut?) somewhat be well entitled (to be) free to come?" (??)

Búi kveðst það eigi vita.
Bui said for himself not to know that.
