Hinn sama hafði hann búning, gyrt að sér slöngu sinni.
The same (person, i.e., Bui), he had attire, girded about himself his snake.

Ólöf sat á palli og Örn stýrimaður á aðra hönd henni og töluðust þau við.
Olaf sat on a dais and Captain Orn on his one side and they talked together. (Z. annarr - á aðra hönd, on the one side)

Búi gekk að palli og kippti upp þeim tveim er sátu á aðra hönd Ólöfu.
Bui went to the dais and pulled himself up to the two who sat on the one side of Olaf.

Síðan settist hann niður og sat þar þann dag, gekk heim um kveldið í helli sinn.
The he sat himself down and sat there that day, went home during the evening to his cave.

Svo breytti hann annan dag og hinn þriðja.
He did so the second day and the third.

Örn austmaður hélt hætti sínum en hvorgi talaði svo við Ólöfu að eigi heyrði annar.
Orn the Norwegian maintained his custom but neither spoke so with Olaf that didn't hear the other.

Nú er þar til að taka er Þorgerður húsfreyja var að Vatni.
Now we must take up the story when Thorgerd the housewife was at Vatn.

Hún kom í eldhús um dag.
She came in the kitchen (or could be "living room") during the day.

Þar lá Kolfinnur son hennar og rétti býfur helsti langar.
There lay Kofinnur her son and stretched out his long legs.

Hún mælti: "Mikið má skilja," sagði hún, "til hvers menn eru fæddir í heiminn og að hverju getið skal verða.
She said: "(I) can much distinguish," she said, "to what men are born in the world and to what gotten shall become.

Þeir sitja tveir menn í Kollafirði og keppast um Ólöfu hina vænu og mörg karlmannleg brögð eru frá þeim sögð.
Two men, they sit in Kollafirth and contend for Olaf the beautiful and many manly schemes are from them said.

Nú ganga þangað allir ungir menn til leika en þú ert sú vanmenna að þú liggur í eldgrófum til hrellingar þinni móður og væri betra að þú værir dauður en vita slíka skömm í ætt sinni."
Now all young men go there to the games but you are the most worthless person that you lie in the living room to the afflictions of your mother and (it) would be better that you were dead than knowing such a disgrace to his family."

Kolfinnur segir: "Áköf ertu nú móðir og mun brátt betur."
Kolfinn says: "Vehement you are now mother and (it) will soon (be) better."

Þorgerður snýr á burt.
Thorgerd turns away.

Litlu síðar rís Kolfinnur upp og gengur út og litast um, sér að ekki er framorðið.
A little later Kolfinnur gets up and goes out and looks about, sees that it is not late.

Kolfinnur var svo búinn að hann var í kollhettu og hafði kneppt blöðum milli fóta sér.
Kollfinnur was dressed so that he was in a kind of round cap and had a jacket buttoned between his legs.

Hann hafði hökulbrækur og kálfskinnskó loðna á fótum.
He had cloak-breaches and shaggy calf skin shoes on (his) feet.
