Esja mælti: "Hvað hefir fóstri minn þess til gert að hann sé dauða verður?"

Esja mælti: "Þótt Búi fóstri minn væri hér og hefði hann dauðaverk gert þá mundi eg þér hann aldrei til dauða fram selja.
Esja said: "Although Bua, my foster (relative) were here and he had done a penalty of death then I would never hand him over to you to kill.

En nú hefir Búi ekki hér komið síðan gærdag er hann gekk braut.
But now Bua has not come here since yesterday when he went away.

Þorgrímur mælti: "Vér trúum því eigi að hann sé eigi hér og viljum vér rannsaka."
Thorgrim said: "We believe that not that he would be here nor we would want to ransack (your house)."

Esja mælti: "Finn eg nú það að Helgi bjóla faðir þinn er dauður.
Esja said: "I find now that, that Helga (bjóla?) your father is dead.

Aldrei mundu hús mín rannsökuð ef hann mætti um mæla.

En vera mun sá ríkismunur nú að þú munt ráða ætla.
