Subject: [norse_course] Laxdaela Saga 32 - Rob's Translation

Having been alerted that some of the Icelandic letters in my previous posts weren't showing properly, I am making two changes with this post. First, I am not/not using the Rich-Text Editor. Second, I used a different font in the Word document from which I am pasting the content below:

32. kafli
Af Ósvífi Helgasyni
Concerning Osvif, Helga's Son

Their daughter was named Gudrun.

Hún var kvenna vænst er upp óxu á Íslandi, bæði að ásjónu og vitsmunum.
She was the most beautiful woman who grew up in Iceland, both in appearance and sagacity.

Guðrún var kurteis kona svo að í þann tíma þóttu allt barnavípur það er aðrar konur höfðu í skarti hjá henni.
Gudrun was an elegant woman so that in that time it was thought by all childish trifles that which other women had in finery in comparison to her.

Osvif wanted to buy from him land because he had a lack of land but much livestock.

Þetta fór fram að Ósvífur keypti að Þórarni af landi hans allt frá Gnúpuskörðum og eftir dalnum tveim megin til Stakkagils.
This took place that Osvif bought from Thorarn all his lands from Gnupuskord and beyond two valleys, the chief part to Stakkagil. (Z. fara 18 - f. fram, to go on, take place)
