Hello All 

What is the feeling out there regarding using Cleasby Vigfusson vs. Zoega as Old Norse dictionaries??  For my studies I tend to use Zoega backed up by EV Gordon's dictionary in the back of his Old Norse primer (the one I learned from) and occasionally Michael Barnes glossary   I have not purchased a Cleasby Vigfusson (yet) although have been tempted!!! 

Will do some work on Heidrek today after those earthly Sunday chores are done (nice if the Valykrie did the wash!)

The Dictionary was £150 (Cleasby Vigfusson) print on demand

I searched amazon in the US and turned up only the costlier first edition.

Hello All

As I indicated before the holidays, one of my winter projects is translating The Saga of King Heidrek the Wise using the new 50th anniversary edition with notes by Christopher Tolkien. Although a rather late saga, it does contain selections of older prose and poetry including fragments of the oldest Norse we have The Battle of the Goths and the Huns. If anyone is interested in working on this with me I can do a weekly posting page by page of the Old Norse and we can translate together.  it's a great story that includes a magic sword, a barrow wight and action that takes place in Mirkvir - very Tolkienan!!

Hello, I was wondering if a translation the Bible translated into Old Norse existed?  I would assume not, as most Bibles in medieval times would be in Latin, but would a modern version exist?
That could be very helpful to me in learning the language of my ancestors.
